The association Memories of the Himalaya is pleased to announce that the digitization of photographs taken during the first mission of foreign researchers to Tibet in 1980 has begun thanks to exceptional funding. It is a corpus of more than 2,300 photographs.
In May and June 1980, a group of more than 70 foreign researchers were invited by the Chinese authorities to visit Tibet. Among them, Michel Colchen, Jean-François Dobremez, Patrick Le Fort and Corneille Jest were able to photograph and make surveys on different sites between Lhasa and the Sino-Nepalese border of Kodari (Dram), passing in particular through Gyantse, Shigatse and Shelkar.
